Friday morning registration:
- There are 300 of us, all needing to register and get into one auditorium between 7 and 8:30 AM. If most of you show up at 8:15 or later, you will not get in for the 9 AM start. To facilitate your entry:
- Arrive no later than 8 AM, preferably earlier (registration begins at 7). We’ll have hot beverages and pastries, and a great crowd to mingle with, so don’t hesitate to come early.
- For security reasons, you must have a Photo ID to get in. (Like an airline ticket, you cannot send a friend or colleague in your place.)
- Please have your photo ID out and ready before you reach the registration desk.
- UCB Campus Police has recommended that we visually inspect all large bags, and randomly inspect small bags. Plan for the possibility that you’ll be asked to open your bag for a visual inspection.
Transportation and Parking:
On the UC Berkeley Campus, like all university campuses, parking is limited and competitive, while public transport is plentiful. Please take the hint.
- The conference center has limited parking, with much demand. $18/day. Do not expect a guaranteed space. Parking in the surrounding neighborhood is limited to 2 hours.
- If conference parking is full, here’s a campus parking map https://tinyurl.com/u8qd3dh, but do not take this as an indication that spots will be available or that you’ll be able to park and walk to the conference center on time (it’s a very large campus).
- If you’re in any of the hotels we recommended https://nccmaid.org/berkeley-lodging/ you’re in walking distance to the conference center. If not, Uber/Lyft are recommended, but there may be high demand so leave early.
- Public transportation:
- From Rockridge BART station: 79 Bus North, 12 minutes.
- From Downtown Berkeley BART: 79 Bus (Q30) or 51B (Q10), ask the driver to let you off near the Clark Kerr Campus.
- Public transportation:
- Food:
- Hot beverages and pastries available each morning. Snacks available in the afternoon.
- Consider bringing a thermos or personal water bottle. We’re avoiding plastic, so while we’ll have cups there will also be a filtered water station on-site to fill your bottles.
- Lunch: Box lunches provided, including (if requested) gluten-free, vegetarian. If you did not request one of those when you registered, please do not take one. Beverages provided.
- If you’re attending the 6 to 8pm clinical training, finger-food/snacks will be provided but plan to have dinner after the training.
- February 14 is Valentine’s Day, so restaurants may be crowded. If you have a particular restaurant in mind, it would be wise to make a reservation soon. There are literally hundreds of restaurants in Berkeley/Oakland, so you can find a place with or without a reservation. https://nccmaid.org/berkeley-food-and-activities/
- NOTE: Anyone eating at Chez Panisse has to invite the conference organizers.
- WiFi: CALVISITORS, open access. We will be as close to paper-free as we can. The schedule, speaker details, etc. are online. Downloads of information you might want later will be provided. So bring your phones or gadgets, and don’t expect a folder of papers to guide you along (and then throw away later).
